Pocket Threads v.07 - Materials and Music
With Mambadore fixed, Corgaze will be fixed soon enough.
I finally added a few background sounds to make the world less silent. Each area you can enter can have a different background tune. They’re not epic scores, but they are certainly enough to be a pleasant addition. Plus, you can control the volume of these new sounds with a slider called Music Volume located in the options.
You may have noticed that, in the bestiary, the names of monster species have text under them (mainly being “Cotton”). These are going to be the ‘elemental types’ of monsters in the near future. They help implement the classic elemental rock-paper-scissors prevalent in this genre. Dubbed in-game as Materials, each monster has a Material type that is weak to or resistant to other types, except for one, which is neutral to all. There are a total of 6 Materials. Rayon, Silk, Ribbon, Gold, Wool, and the neutral one, Cotton. Each of these Materials are some of the things you can embroider with!
The monsters are, of course, not literally embroidered in their Material type (they’re mostly made of pearl cotton or cotton floss) but that may be a future challenge I’ll look at later. However, Grosvex and Devool both were embroidered with Rayon floss around their spoolbodies.
Monsters in each Material type share something in common with each other. For example, Rayon monsters are fairly new monsters to the Pocket Threads world story-wise and have strange motives and/or interact with Eudiphyla more often than others.
Here’s a handy-dandy picture of the Material type web, describing the weaknesses/resistances of each Material type. The type that another type points at does more damage to it, while also being resistant to the damage that the defending type can do to it. It also includes who I’ve assigned to the various Material types for now.
Typings are implemented but the damage bonus/reductions are not being applied. I still need to do a little bit of balance testing before I fully implement them.
What’s Next? Hehe, well, I’ve got some refactoring of the beast that is the combat system to do, or maybe I’ll just add something new…
Also while you're here, check out calimerho's little playthrough of Pocket Threads v.6!
